Just a walking distance from Stadthuys, St Paul hill is located behind A’Famosa Fortress. During Portuguese colonial [1511-1641], first they had build this fort which encircling the Melaka Hill (Now is St. Paul hill) to guard the Malacca river and the coast line from enemies.
The gate(Fort of A’Famosa) now you see is remaining of the four main gate of the fortress.
According to history, St Paul Church is built between 1520-1521 by a Portuguese fidalgo (nobleman) called Duarte Coelho.
After Dutch invade on 1641, almost every building within the fort were destroyed except the fort and the Church. You still see the old Dutch tombstones leaned against the ruin wall.
From the St Paul hill, you can see a very beautiful view of Malacca Straits.
