“@” is a very common sign we used and see every day in computers or Internet.  But, do you know how others countries people called this “@” sign?

• English officially – at (or alias)
• Italian – snail
• French – arrobe or arobe
• Dutch – monkey tail
• Japanese – at mark
• German – spider monkey
• Chinese – little mouse
• Russian – dog
• Spanish – arroba(or asperand)
• Portuguese – arroba(or asperand)
• Finnish – miukumauku(meow meow – symbol of cat & tail)
• Polish – malpa(means monkey)
• Swedish – snabel(trunk a) – elephant trunk symbol
• Danish – snabel(trunk a) – elephant trunk symbo
• Norwegian - krollalfa
• Greek – papaki(small duck)
• Slovenian – afna(means monkey)

That’s all I can find in Internet.  Eh…Malaysia, anybody know how to called “@” in Malay ?

Mark Zuckerberg wrote Facemash, the predecessor to Facebook, on October 28, 2003, while attending Harvard as a sophomore. The site represented a Harvard University version of Hot or Not, according to the Harvard Crimson.^[18] According to The Harvard Crimson, Facemash “used photos compiled from the online facebooks of nine Houses, placing two next to each other at a time and asking users to choose the ‘hotter’ person.”^[19]

To accomplish this, Zuckerberg hacked into the protected areas of Harvard’s computer network and copied the houses’ private dormitory ID images. Harvard at that time did not have a student directory with photos and basic information, and the initial site generated 450 visitors and 22,000 photo-views in its first four hours online.^[19] That the initial site mirrored people’s physical community—with their real identities—represented the key aspects of what later became Facebook.^[20]

The auction was capped at a $125,000 “buy it now” price with 1 current bid at $10,000.  I believed, who ever ends up buying this domain will gain popularity (at least).

This is Favicon.ico

What is ‘Favicon‘? I just know the word yesterday.  This is because I always see this ‘little fancy’ icon appearing at the address bar when I type in the URLs of a website I want to visit, but I can’t see it at my own website/blog.  So, I Google it and found out this 16×16 pix icon is called ‘Favicon.ico‘.  It looks great and creative when you got this little icon appearing on the tab when people visiting your website/blog.

You can create this icon from ‘Paint’ but not very nice.  There is a website can help you to create your own Favicon(Click here).  After you had created and satisfied, download the file(name it – favicon.ico) into your computer.  Upload the file into your hosting server(under root directory).  Now you must write this two paragraph of html code before </head> in your website

<link rel=”icon” href=”http://www.YourDomain.com/favicon.ico” type=”image/x-icon”>

Please change the www.YourDomain.com to your own domain name.  Now you can see your own ‘Favicon’ at your website/blog.

I had try few times upgrading my blog from WordPress version 2.9 to version 2.9.1 from my Dashboard, and I get 100% failed.  Why? When I use upgrade automatic option and using FTP (SSL) connection, an error will occur, something like cannot copy /public_html/wp-content/upgrade/xxxxx.tmp/xxxxx.php. After few try, I choose the normal FTP option and its working perfectly.

My advice : don’t used the FTP (SSL) option, choose the normal FTP option to do the upgrade.  And don’t forget to backup your database before you upgrade(just in case) .  Good luck!

P/S : if you encounter data error in /home/domain/public_html/wp-includes/http.php on line 1824 after upgrading to WordPress version 2.9.1, please visit My Digital Life for solution.

Warning: gzuncompress() [function.gzuncompress]: data error in /home/melakabe/public_html/wp-includes/http.php on line 1831. I got this message on top of my WordPress control panel after upgrading my blog to WordPress version 2.9.  Anybody who had faced same problem can go to http://core.trac.wordpress.org/export/11450/trunk/wp-includes/http.php, download the http.php, upload into your server and replace the old one.
