Langkawi island – Pulau Langkawi

Langkawi island is famous because of it “Isle of Legends” and the best known of these is Mahsuri, where a beautiful woman falsely accused of adultery.  According to the legend, when she was executed for the crime, she bled white blood and she cursed the island for seven generations(black(burned) paddy, you still can find a piece of black sandy beach near Northern beach).  Now her tomb remains become a tourist attraction.

Beside the legends, Langkawi has seen dramatic economic development in recent years.  1987, it was declared a tax-free zone and later in 2007 gained recognition as UNESCO World Geopark.  This two major facts had attract more than 2 millions visitor every year.  As we can see now, Langkawi had many best hotels(Langkawi is not a budget destination), mostly situated at Western side of the island at Pantai Cenang, Pantai Tengah, Burau Bay, Datai Bay, Pantai Kok.
