From the calculation, 5% of 200 million minutes = 43,333,333 hours are spend by US corporates employee playing Angry Birds every day. Multiply this number by the hourly pay of America’s smartphone owners(average $35/hour), you get $1,516,666,667 worth of lost wages while playing on this game.

Service Tax is delayed
Received a SMS from Maxis Hotlink, informed that the 6% Service Tax on Prepaid Top up and SIM Starter Pack is delayed/postponed (“ditunda“). Not what we expect earlier the tax will be absorbed by Malaysia’s telco companies ‘forever’.
You probably get a short relief from time being. I believed, within few months time, the 6% Service Tax will be soon become reality. May be after Malaysia’s 13th General Election.
Rovio‘s General Manager for North America, Andrew Stalbow - ”350 million downloads on Angry Birds game since it launched in December 2009“ and players spending 300 million minutes on this game EVERY day.
Beside that, until last June Rovio’s Angry Birds merchandise side had sold more than 3 million plush toys. According to Stalbow, company is selling one million Angry Birds plush toy a month and addition one million T-shirts each month as well.
Wonder why this game so popular ? Because it support multiple platforms – iOS, Android, Nook, Chrome Web App and soon this game will appear in Kindle tablet.

This is a good news, but not at all. Mobile prepaid customers may NOT get any special call rates and SMS rates in future due to the 6% Service Tax absorb by the company. In other words, prepaid customer will have to pay expensive call rates and SMS rates. The 6% Service Tax issue will be “review” again at suitable time in future.
