Travel from North of Malaysia, Perlis a little Northern Gem, border with Thailand province, Satun.  Some of Perlis attractions.

1. Gua Kelam – Kelam Cave (Cave of Darkness)

Locate 33 km North of Kangar, Gua Kelam, a 370 m limestone cave near to Kaki Bukit.

2. Kota Kayang Museum

Towards the end of the 19th century, Syed Salim built his residence and stayed there with his family until it was sold to the State Government just after the signing of the 1909 Bangkok Treaty. After that, the building became the official residence of the state British Advisors. The first British Advisor, Mr. Meadow Frost and his successors resided in the house until the Second World War in 1941. From 1941 until 1943, the building was taken over by Japanese Military Administration, while from 1943 until 1945, the Thai Military Government took over the building.

3. Snake & Reptile Farm

Located 10km North of Kangar, near Sungai Batu Pahat.  The Snake Farm is a research facility set up to develop anti-venom for snakebites. Housing more than 20 species of snakes, as well as crocodiles and monitor lizards, it is the ONLY snake farm in Malaysia.

4. Padang Besar

Border town, many Malaysian travel up to Thailand through this point.  A bargain-hunters paradise,textile, handicraft, souvenirs, local foods, fruits are the most selling goods

The railway station has a long platform, manned by Malaysians on one side and the Thais on the other. Besides the Immigration checkpoints and some signs, it is hard to distinguish where the border actually lies because culturally, both sides are so enmeshed.

5. Perlis state park

Some of the major attractions in Perlis State Park includes the various caves such as Gua Kelam and Gua Wang Burma which is located within the 500 year-old Setul limestone formation. The Park consists of Mata Ayer Forest Reserve and Wang Mu Forest Reserve with a total area of about 5000 hectares.

The park provides the perfect setting for activities such as the Stumed-tail Macaque and plants like ginger, ferns and balsams endemic to the state are found here. Visitor can stay in hostels and chalets or camp at the designated site.

6. Kuala Perlis

The major activity found here is fishing and many superb seafood restaurants can be found in this small fishing town.

Is time for me to move on to introduce others popular and interested places in Malaysia(other than Malacca).  First, I would like to start from Malaysia Islands.  Why?  I really enjoyed traveling, specially travel to a place where it got crystal clear water, sandy beach and far from noisy and busy environments.

Genting Highlands Resort - 2009

Is like a routine, having a holiday with family at Genting Highlands Resort(Booking).  I think most of Malaysian had been there before, but still I would like to advise, Please do NOT go to Genting Highlands Resort during any Holiday Season, specially School Holiday. Why?

• ‘Traffic Jam’ – Car, Bus, Cable Car, Tourist
  • Road – travel up by car, you will suffer when looking for parking.  If lucky, you get a parking lot far from hotels and need to walk long distance with your heavy luggage
  • Half-way at Goh Thong Jaya – Skyway Cable Car – the parking lot also FULL, you had to park at roof top(at your own risk).  Some more, long queue while waiting for Cable car.
  • Check-in to Hotel room – with 30 Front Desk counters operation – you still had to wait for One and a half hour to check in.
  • Outdoor/Indoor Theme Park – You had to wait for 30 minutes to take your turn on Games or Rides.  I called it ‘Human’ traffic jam.
  • Foods courts – Same condition, long queue in waiting list
  • Casino – I had been worked at Genting Highland’s Casino before(more than 10 years ago).  Can you imagine, you even Can’t walk through to Exit.  Peoples are so packed inside the Casino, until no room to let people walk through.

• Quality of Service
  • House Keeping – you probably getting NOT so clean towels
  • Foods – imagine 10 of thousands of tourist are having breakfast, lunch or dinner at the same time.  Nobody can guarantee the quality of the foods they served.

OK, that are the drawbacks when go holiday in peak season.  But still, Genting Highlands Resort is the ‘City of Entertainments‘.  It provides you and your family all the fun and exciting experiences.

If you planed to take a holiday at Genting Highlands Resort, I suggest you make it 3 days 2 nights trip.  Why?

• If you stayed for 2 days 1 night – OK, check in at 2-3 pm(if operation running smooth).  After settled down all you luggage, is already around 4pm.  Is not worthy to buy Outdoor Theme park ticket(about RM 48 for adult, RM36 for children), because Outdoor Theme park is closed after 9pm and you can’t play some of the games/facilities after dark.  Some more, if raining, the ticket is NOT refundable.
• Indoor Theme Park – Most of the games/rides are mainly for kids only.  Parents who bought Family Package ticket will feel not worthy.  Indoor Theme park is closed after midnight.
• If you drive to Genting Highlands by your self.  Trust me, after accompanying your kids whole day.  Is very tired.  You will exhausted after few hours playing and straight fall on sleep when back to hotel’s room.
• Check out at 12 pm – So, after a tired night, you won’t be wake up early, but your kids will ask for continuing the fun and games.  After breakfast, you probably got only 2 hours for them.  Is too rush!

3 days 2 nights at Genting Highlands Resort, you can managed day 1 at Indoor Theme Park.  Day 2 for Outdoor and Indoor Theme park (All Park price is cheaper). Day 3 (morning) Indoor Theme park.  In that case you won’t feel tired and got more time to rest.

Update 16 Nov 2010 – Forgot to mention, Peak season room rates (standard room) can go up to RM 190++ per night WITHOUT breakfast.  But if you go on normal week days, room rates can be low as RM 75++ including buffet breakfast for 2 adults.

Yesterday, I went to Melaka town for some merchant goods purchasing.  At first I didn’t notice any strange image when I drove pass the location.  On my way return, on the same road, perhaps is my instinct, to look at the beautiful Melaka’s beach.  This image appeared in front of my eyes :

Eye on Malaysia is GONE

I just felt something is not right, I make a turn and drive straight into the Eye on Malaysia site.  I walked out from my car, and wondered “Something is Missing??? “.   OMG! they had taken out(dismantle) all the gondolas from the Eye on Malaysia(I took these photo with my Sony Ericsson phone – Not very clear).

If you still remember my previous post (Eye on Malaysia is Closed).  Eye on Malaysia is CLOSED due to legal suit issue and I thought Melaka Government will taking over this project.  But from seeing this photo, I believed Eye on Malaysia will NO more be here anymore.  Melaka is losing another point of attraction.
